catwalk to real walk

if you're in new york, you already know that it is absolutely beautiful outside today! after what seemed like a loooong winter, that alternated between blizzards and downpours, it seems that spring has finally sprung! in celebration of the newly balmy conditions, we are turning our attention to the lips for today's catwalk to real walk. on the runway at marc by marc jacobs, models were decked out in vibrantly colored and patterned clothes with a subversive punk-rock feel, all topped off with a big, bright bow adorning their frizzy ponytails -- and their makeup was accordingly vivid. in this case, the focus was on the lips, which were painted a bold fuchsia hue. this look was almost immediately embraced by those working the red carpet, as evidenced by ashley greene of the twilight series of movies. pictured below are ms. greene and her runway inspiration:
catwalk to real walkfollowing this lead, we decided to give the fuchsia lip a test run at the nuBest make-up center. using our salon coordinator, maria, as our model for the day, here are the results (makeup done by anna naso):

catwalk to real walkfor those of you who consider yourselves makeup neophytes, fear not, because this look is relatively simple to re-create. all it takes is a bright pink lipstick (which, if you don't have, you can purchase at the nuBest make-up center). at the marc by marc jacobs show, a matte lipstick was used, while it appears that ashley greene opted for something with a little more shine; although we went with the runway look as our true inspiration and chose to go matte, either a matte or a glossy shade is right on trend. in keeping with our inspiration, anna kept the rest of maria's makeup understated and clean. she simply lined the upper lash line with a black liner (creating a cat-eye effect at the outer corners -- another prominent spring trend!), highlighted the inner corners of the eyes with a white pencil to truly open the eyes, and used a shimmery highlighting powder on her cheekbones to accentuate maria's flawless skin and bone structure.
what do you think of today's look? would you incorporate a fuchsia lip into your beauty routine? if you have any questions for our make-up experts, or if you want to weigh in with your opinion, leave us a comment -- we'd love to hear what you think!
catwalk to real walk a few posts back, we named fuchsia lips as one of the budding spring trends. yet upon further analysis of the spring runways, it appears that some designers were thinking pink elsewhere -- specifically, on the eyes. not to be confused with the significantly less chic conjunctivitis, pink eyeshadow popped up at several shows during new york fashion week (specfically at tuleh, ports 1961, cynthia rowley and tibi, pictured below).

catwalk to real walkcatwalk to real walkwe would certainly suggest this particular look to anyone who's willing to experiment with color, but in a slightly more subtle way than, say, the much more bold and brazen fuchsia lip. the beauty lies in the idea that any shade of pink will fit the bill -- be it a pale pink or, like at tibi, a shock of magenta. as an added benefit, this trend will apparently carry into next

catwalk to real walk fall, as evidenced by yves saint laurent's fall/winter show, where models walked the runway with hot pink shadow and a contrasting navy blue liner:

here is our interpretation of the YSL look (which is appropriate for spring or fall), executed by anna naso, with stylist's assistant elly modeling the look:

catwalk to real walkthis is a relatively literal interpretation of the original runway look, so there isn't much to explain in terms of technique. anna used a bright pink shadow to cover the entire eyelid, and applied a navy blue liner along the upper lash line. she finished with a pair of faux lashes, courtesy of the nuBest lash bar -- big lashes, exaggerated by either false lashes or lots and lots of mascara, are essential. add a bit of blush and gloss, and you're good to go.

also note elly's au courant side braid. the braid is another surefire trend for spring, so for those of you who can't discern between a french braid and a fishtail, we would definitely advise perfecting your plaiting skills in time for spring!

what do you think of today's look? would you rather wear pink lipstick or pink eyeshadow (or neither)? do you have any questions for our hair and beauty experts? leave us a comment and we'd be happy to help!

Pink Overdose.

If you grew up in the '80s like I did, you remember Molly Ringwald and all the movies she played into, mostly Sixteen Candles and her character : Samantha Baker. So when I saw the Molto Bene's Samantha Baker's Bedroom Skybox for Project Themeory... I couldn't resist. Mostly that it's pink all over, and offered at the ridiculous price of L$75.

And it happens the exact same day as Spruce Up Your Space! comes out, under the theme "So Boho"! Z'oh my God!

Friday, I'm in love.

I know, I know, it's Fifty Lindens Friday and I'm not even talking about it!? What's happening? Well I was just too busy shopping for a coat. And finding one that won't mess with your boobs, hips, butt, AO and that also looks good is something very rare. Fortunately, there is Aoharu and once again, the new Mini Lenght Trench Coat reaches all my expectations. And the textures / colors are gorgeous! I got myself the Ivory (which is closer to camel, in my opinion) one and I had to stop myself from getting the fatpack.

I very rarely purchase fatpacks because I'm trying to convince myself I don't need the same item in 8 or 12 colors. The amount of money I saved this past 2 years by doing so is simply astonishing... but this coat almost got me.

Instead, I also spoiled myself with the Feminine Fut Tippet Coat in brown, also from Aoharu.

While I was there, I grabbed the Dungaree shirt Special Edition in red. It's only 50$L and every penny goes directly to Japan. Honestly, red is not my color but for such low price and good cause, I had to get it. Available at Aoharu Mainstore only.

Less than 12h after the beginning of Pacific Crisis Fundraiser, over L$1,000,000 were already given to the cause from donations and purchases. ONE MILLION! That's fantastic!

And because you can never have too many skins, mostly when it helps a good cause, I got myself these two lovely ones below. At 600L$ each, 100% donation to PCF, it's quite a deal... you know you have to get them too! These two skins are asian inspired but fit my caucasian shape quite well.

MOR; Black Cherry & Cassis Noir Heaven!

If, just for once, I could describe a scent so well you could actually smell it, it would be for this product; MOR Cassis Noir Body Butter.
The scent is described as "sparkling cinammon leaf, bulgaria rose and blackcurrant flirts with star jasmine in a warm seductive dance"... Does that help? I bet you still can't quite taste how absolutely delicious, sophisticated & downright sexy this is!

The scent is slightly, ever so slightly, masculine in that it isn't floral. It is fresh, heady and so moreish. The texture is super thick & creamy, blends into the skin like a dream, leaving a soft comfortable silky feeling, without being sticky. At around £22 for 50g, this is one that should sit atop your dressing table, being saved for special occasions. The scent demands a partnership with freshly showered skin, an LBD and sky scraper stilettos and who are we to argue?

If you are choosing to extend the seductive scents into the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen (stairs...) then one of the MOR Black Cherry Candles would be a pretty good place to start.

Let's begin with the obvious; who could resist the jet black candle & gold leaf decoration on the packaging? Absolutely divine. Move onto the wafts of heaven once alight; "Cherries, plum red currant & tangerine zest blend with the musky aroma of Blonde Woods to finish in a sweet fruity scent".

So far, my candle has been my choice for that bathtime when I want to feel like the girl in the flake advert. A moment of peace, calm and luxury.
The MOR range is available from the House of Fraser Apothecary, both online & instore.

100% good cause.

Don't forget : Pacific Crisis Fundraiser starts tomorrow and you can find plenty of lovely things. I wanted to make a 100% PCF outfit (including skin, hair and eyes) but Paypal won't cooperate and I'm out of Lindens. Oops.

So I'm 100% donation from neck to knees. Better than nothing?

Maybelline Liner Definer Liquid Eyeliner

I don't know where to start with this. I already ranted here about this horrible little pen, but now I'm trying to write it down, I'm not sure where to start!

Ok, I'm a bit late to the 'felt tip liner' party. I've been admiring from afar, but as I don't really wear liner that much myself (and a product like this is quite useless in a pro kit) I've never really felt the need to run out & buy one.

But, I was browsing in Boots or Superdrug the other day (I can't even remember which!) and I spotted this one. Swatching it on the back of my hand, I was impressed by the clear, sharp black line it gave, skipped down the aisle & handed over my £6.50.

Once home, I was eager to give it a go and set up for filming a tutorial (which I had to abandon due to the complete and utter fail from this stupid pen). What happened? I'm not going to go on and on and on, preferring to summarise below...

The tip is rock solid and it 'stabs' into the lash line. To get any product actually onto the lid/lash line, you have to lie the pen on it's side, meaning you get an almost centimetre thick line, rather than the thinnest sleekest line as promised. It drags, tugs & pulls the eye lid. The actual liner is crap & dries patchy. It's difficult & stressful to use - trying not to stab yourself in the eye necessitates bathroom mirror gymnastics & not something I'm good at at 5.30 am getting ready on a Monday morning. It is, quite simply, down right pants.

Don't even get me started on it's name. Liner Definer Liquid Eyeliner? Seriously, someone was paid to come up with that??!!

I have not a single good thing to say about this (did I mention the very strong chemically smell?). I'm interested to hear your experiences!

Pacific Crisis Fundraiser.

Statique. is extremely honored to be part of the Pacific Crisis Fundraiser which starts this Wednesday, for a full month! Again, I'll let the press release speak for itself :

"An emergency fundraising effort for the victims of the crisis in the Pacific that hit on the 10th/11th of march is being set up.

SL is an international community, with a strong base in Japan specifically. This disaster is worldwide and affects us all, as a community SL has risen up time and time again to help out in times of distress, including very recently.

In september 2010, 11,000 us dollars was raised for the Pakistan flood crisis relief fund (UNICEF) at an SL event. An event organized in four days. This is an example of what our community can do, and we are attempting to prepare for a similar, simple but effective, event."

Pacific Crisis Fundraiser will take place from March 16 - April 10 and everyone is offering at least 1 item at 100% donation (some others at 50%). The place is already packed with all the well known brands and some more (I heard 300 stores registered so far!) to the point they are adding a 2nd row of vendors above the 1st one! It's gonna be ginormous and hopefully we'll raise a lot of Lindens!

You can find Statique. exclusive HOPE necklace, along with 5 other regular products already available in store (50% goes to PCF) straight at the entrance... I was lucky enough to arrive as they were setting the 2nd row of vendors so I'm comfortably installed straight above Peqe and The Secret Store. You have no excuse not to find me!

You will recognize the little bird from the Spring ring on the HOPE necklace... I wanted an exclusive item for the event and thought it would be appropriate to use my little friend and his flower as a symbol of hope for Japan's future.

Visit Pacific Crisis Fundraiser, starting Wednesday!

Seriously Maybelline, WTF??

I have a bit of a Maybelline product rant coming up in a couple of days (I already 'vlogged' about it here) but whilst I was searching for the online link to include in the YT description box, I came across this advert... (this is a screen grab).

I have issues with this foundation anyway (I haven't even tried it and I never ever would!). The sponge on the end of it is enough to make anyone who has ever suffered from blemishes, oilyness or acne to run for the hills, clutching their toner tightly to their chest. But, I digress...

Forget the product; WHAT THE HELL IS THIS ADVERT ABOUT???? Seriously, what on earth is it trying to convey? Did the graphic designer have a drink at lunch?? This has got to be one of the most unflattering adverts I have ever seen.

It's spring at Statique!

Spring arrived at Statique. with the release of a new collection dedicated to the little bird above. Isn't he cute? You'll find him everywhere - rings and antlers, and very soon on earrings and necklaces - along with Ashimu, the official face of Statique!

Rings and antlers are already available in store. The antlers are available in two size (sold separately) : Petit Bois (small) and Grand Bois (large) and each size comes in 3 colors : Yogurt (light), Honey (medium) and Chocolate (dark) with 3 attachments (nose, mouth, chin).

Visit Statique. in-world to grab these products, and more!

A true Lazy Sunday.

I honored this Lazy Sunday by waking up at 2pm. Ooops.

I tried the shadows option in Viewer 2 today, for a change... and I really don't like it. The picture is extremely dark, it's not even funny. Of course with some practice I could probably do better but I rather stick to what I already know : do my own shadows manually in Photoshop.

And yes, even if the picture is dark you can clearly see that I went blonde! It's from the new LeLutka collection with darker roots, and even if I got the dark red pack, the light blonde also called my name so hard, I couldn't resist purchasing it. I'm not a big fan of blonde shades, but LeLutka's are very well done, not too yellow, enough to convince me to put my redhead on the side once in a while!

A Few Products I'm Loving...

BarryM Foundation Creme in White (£6.19)

I was trying to think of an alternative to MAC White Face & Body when filming a video the other day and I seemed to remember (somehow, I don't ask me how!) that BarryM do a white foundation, that might be a good dupe. Figuring I shouldn't be recommending things without actually having tried it, I popped down to Superdrug to pick some up for myself!

I can't say I'm blown away, but it does exactly what it claims to. It's thick, creamy, pigmented & blends in beautifully into both the skin on it's own and with other foundations. It cost only £6.19 so if you're on a budget, then this will stretch your foundation of choice the whole year through, into the winter days when you need a shade or 2 lighter.

Accessorize Baked/Merged Blush
I also finally succumbed to one of the Accessorize blushes after seeing Cami rave about them in at least 2 videos! I picked up 'Starlet' and it has been love on first swatch! Aside from the absolutely stunning packaging, the product is beautiful - it gives the freshest rosiest glow, with just enough of a subtle shimmer. It's divine! And at £6, I can probably pick up another shade without it breaking the bank!

Accessorize Eyeshadow Palette in 'Gamble'
The last little find was this palette from Accessorize. The colours caught my eyes as just a nice neutrals - nothing too sparkly, dark etc. And it's really pretty! Again, it was about £6. The colours all work well together and are very blendable.

The little tube of E/S primer that comes with it

Bright Lips - MAC Vegas Volt

For those of you not able to fully embrace the spring/summer '11 brights makeup look by whacking on some neon green onto your peepers, then here is a little video to help you out. Pick your favourite bright lippy, keep the skin & eyes fresh and et voila! Supermodel Chic without running the risk of looking like coco the clown...

I chose MAC Vegas Volt. I 'backed to MAC' for the first time last week (well, actually Ann from Girl in The City did it for me) and my reward was this little beauty, which has gone straight into my top 5 of all time lipsticks. I know, praise indeed!

Today will be a day to remember for Div - my boyfriend - and I.

Long story short, we met in Second Life. He is american and I'm (french!) canadian. All the odds were against us but we managed to turn our virtual dream into something real. It was hard, and it took some times, but we made it! Div lives with me in Montréal since 3 months now, but we need to legally allow him to stay for good.

So today is the first step of his immigration : our civil union. Nothing big, just us and our two witnesses, and some home made cupcakes. Following today, we'll fill all papers and stuff required for him to get his permanent citizenship.

Only, I thought it would be fun to commemorate this even in SL, where we met over 3 years ago!

Since Div doesn't log in Second Life anymore, I decided not to do the traditional picture with the two lovebirds. Instead, waiting for him (forever?) in a white dress seemed more appropriate. I couldn't resist adding LaGyo's Spring accessories to my outfit. The headpiece is stunning; I didn't retouch the picture at all (except for lighting), these are the original textures. The flowers look so delicate! And the earrings are to die for.

C'est l'euphorie!

E U P H O R I A sim is announcing their Hunt #2, starting today at 12 SLT! And if you were already in their group, you got the news before everyone else and had the opportunity to grab their stuff before it turns into a major lagfest (it was already laggy when I teleported out).

Unfortunately, most of the items offered weren't that fantastic (but eh, it's free) even if some big names are taking part of the event (Fishy Strawberry, The Secret Store, Donna Flora, Milk Motion and more) but I found some fun stuff.

That hat from Donna Flora is not your everyday outfit, but it made me laugh so hard! I love it!
