Elizabeth Taylor's lovely lashes a 'genetic mutation'

Elizabeth Taylor was famous for her violet-coloured eyes, which were perfectly framed by thick, luscious eyelashes. But not many people know that what appeared to be the work of several generous coats of mascara was actually a genetic mutation that caused the Hollywood legend to be born with a double row of eyelashes.
Elizabeth's parents were said to be horrified when a doctor told them their baby had a "mutation", but quickly reconsidered their dismay when the physician explained how it would affect the little girl.

Need some top tips to keep your lashes luscious? Full, fluttery eyes are an enduring trend for summer and now is the perfect time to get to grips with strip lashes to revitalising your nighttime look. Tesco stocks Revlon and Eylure lashes.
Revlon kits contain one set of reusable lashes and specialist lash glue to keep your lashes in place for that special occasion. Prices start from £4.10. And to celebrate 10 years since Girls Aloud first formed, Eylure has also introduced a special 10th anniversary edition of the Girls Aloud lashes, £5.11.
To apply your lashes, firstly hold them against your eye to measure them against the length of your own natural lash line and cut them to fit. If you leave them too long, they will drag your eyes down. Apply the adhesive on the full length of the base of the false lashes, wait 20-30 seconds, then using tweezers, hold the strip lash in the centre and bring it as close to your natural lash line as possible. Press from end to end and hold.

If you are a regular user of falsies, your natural lashes are probably a little weak and battered. M2 Eyelash Activating Serum, £123, available at Harrods exclusively, will give your lashes a new lease of life in just four weeks.

catwalk to real walk

if you're in new york, you already know that it is absolutely beautiful outside today! after what seemed like a loooong winter, that alternated between blizzards and downpours, it seems that spring has finally sprung! in celebration of the newly balmy conditions, we are turning our attention to the lips for today's catwalk to real walk. on the runway at marc by marc jacobs, models were decked out in vibrantly colored and patterned clothes with a subversive punk-rock feel, all topped off with a big, bright bow adorning their frizzy ponytails -- and their makeup was accordingly vivid. in this case, the focus was on the lips, which were painted a bold fuchsia hue. this look was almost immediately embraced by those working the red carpet, as evidenced by ashley greene of the twilight series of movies. pictured below are ms. greene and her runway inspiration:
catwalk to real walkfollowing this lead, we decided to give the fuchsia lip a test run at the nuBest make-up center. using our salon coordinator, maria, as our model for the day, here are the results (makeup done by anna naso):

catwalk to real walkfor those of you who consider yourselves makeup neophytes, fear not, because this look is relatively simple to re-create. all it takes is a bright pink lipstick (which, if you don't have, you can purchase at the nuBest make-up center). at the marc by marc jacobs show, a matte lipstick was used, while it appears that ashley greene opted for something with a little more shine; although we went with the runway look as our true inspiration and chose to go matte, either a matte or a glossy shade is right on trend. in keeping with our inspiration, anna kept the rest of maria's makeup understated and clean. she simply lined the upper lash line with a black liner (creating a cat-eye effect at the outer corners -- another prominent spring trend!), highlighted the inner corners of the eyes with a white pencil to truly open the eyes, and used a shimmery highlighting powder on her cheekbones to accentuate maria's flawless skin and bone structure.
what do you think of today's look? would you incorporate a fuchsia lip into your beauty routine? if you have any questions for our make-up experts, or if you want to weigh in with your opinion, leave us a comment -- we'd love to hear what you think!
catwalk to real walk a few posts back, we named fuchsia lips as one of the budding spring trends. yet upon further analysis of the spring runways, it appears that some designers were thinking pink elsewhere -- specifically, on the eyes. not to be confused with the significantly less chic conjunctivitis, pink eyeshadow popped up at several shows during new york fashion week (specfically at tuleh, ports 1961, cynthia rowley and tibi, pictured below).

catwalk to real walkcatwalk to real walkwe would certainly suggest this particular look to anyone who's willing to experiment with color, but in a slightly more subtle way than, say, the much more bold and brazen fuchsia lip. the beauty lies in the idea that any shade of pink will fit the bill -- be it a pale pink or, like at tibi, a shock of magenta. as an added benefit, this trend will apparently carry into next

catwalk to real walk fall, as evidenced by yves saint laurent's fall/winter show, where models walked the runway with hot pink shadow and a contrasting navy blue liner:

here is our interpretation of the YSL look (which is appropriate for spring or fall), executed by anna naso, with stylist's assistant elly modeling the look:

catwalk to real walkthis is a relatively literal interpretation of the original runway look, so there isn't much to explain in terms of technique. anna used a bright pink shadow to cover the entire eyelid, and applied a navy blue liner along the upper lash line. she finished with a pair of faux lashes, courtesy of the nuBest lash bar -- big lashes, exaggerated by either false lashes or lots and lots of mascara, are essential. add a bit of blush and gloss, and you're good to go.

also note elly's au courant side braid. the braid is another surefire trend for spring, so for those of you who can't discern between a french braid and a fishtail, we would definitely advise perfecting your plaiting skills in time for spring!

what do you think of today's look? would you rather wear pink lipstick or pink eyeshadow (or neither)? do you have any questions for our hair and beauty experts? leave us a comment and we'd be happy to help!

Pink Overdose.

If you grew up in the '80s like I did, you remember Molly Ringwald and all the movies she played into, mostly Sixteen Candles and her character : Samantha Baker. So when I saw the Molto Bene's Samantha Baker's Bedroom Skybox for Project Themeory... I couldn't resist. Mostly that it's pink all over, and offered at the ridiculous price of L$75.

And it happens the exact same day as Spruce Up Your Space! comes out, under the theme "So Boho"! Z'oh my God!

Friday, I'm in love.

I know, I know, it's Fifty Lindens Friday and I'm not even talking about it!? What's happening? Well I was just too busy shopping for a coat. And finding one that won't mess with your boobs, hips, butt, AO and that also looks good is something very rare. Fortunately, there is Aoharu and once again, the new Mini Lenght Trench Coat reaches all my expectations. And the textures / colors are gorgeous! I got myself the Ivory (which is closer to camel, in my opinion) one and I had to stop myself from getting the fatpack.

I very rarely purchase fatpacks because I'm trying to convince myself I don't need the same item in 8 or 12 colors. The amount of money I saved this past 2 years by doing so is simply astonishing... but this coat almost got me.

Instead, I also spoiled myself with the Feminine Fut Tippet Coat in brown, also from Aoharu.

While I was there, I grabbed the Dungaree shirt Special Edition in red. It's only 50$L and every penny goes directly to Japan. Honestly, red is not my color but for such low price and good cause, I had to get it. Available at Aoharu Mainstore only.

MOR; Black Cherry & Cassis Noir Heaven!

If, just for once, I could describe a scent so well you could actually smell it, it would be for this product; MOR Cassis Noir Body Butter.
The scent is described as "sparkling cinammon leaf, bulgaria rose and blackcurrant flirts with star jasmine in a warm seductive dance"... Does that help? I bet you still can't quite taste how absolutely delicious, sophisticated & downright sexy this is!

The scent is slightly, ever so slightly, masculine in that it isn't floral. It is fresh, heady and so moreish. The texture is super thick & creamy, blends into the skin like a dream, leaving a soft comfortable silky feeling, without being sticky. At around £22 for 50g, this is one that should sit atop your dressing table, being saved for special occasions. The scent demands a partnership with freshly showered skin, an LBD and sky scraper stilettos and who are we to argue?

If you are choosing to extend the seductive scents into the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen (stairs...) then one of the MOR Black Cherry Candles would be a pretty good place to start.

Let's begin with the obvious; who could resist the jet black candle & gold leaf decoration on the packaging? Absolutely divine. Move onto the wafts of heaven once alight; "Cherries, plum red currant & tangerine zest blend with the musky aroma of Blonde Woods to finish in a sweet fruity scent".

So far, my candle has been my choice for that bathtime when I want to feel like the girl in the flake advert. A moment of peace, calm and luxury.
The MOR range is available from the House of Fraser Apothecary, both online & instore.

100% good cause.

Don't forget : Pacific Crisis Fundraiser starts tomorrow and you can find plenty of lovely things. I wanted to make a 100% PCF outfit (including skin, hair and eyes) but Paypal won't cooperate and I'm out of Lindens. Oops.

So I'm 100% donation from neck to knees. Better than nothing?
